2nd for Felix in first Sachsenring qualifying

Felix Rosenqvist will start from the first row of the grid for the first time in his short Formula 3 career tomorrow, after setting the second fastest time in the opening qualifying session of the weekend on Friday afternoon. Felix was only beaten to the Sachsenring Race 1 Pole Position by Tom Dillmann (France), but took the spoils as the best-placed 2010 rookie.

Felix didn't get off to the greatest of starts this morning, though, as - like in Oschersleben four weeks ago - he had to sit out much of practice; this time after an early off on the daunting, ultra-quick 3.645 km circuit. The qualifying result means Felix will line-up four places ahead of his Performance Racing team-mate Alon Day, who also put in a solid lap to end up sixth.

The international echelon of the ATS Formula 3 Cup became more apparent than ever this afternoon, as the first eight positions were split between drivers from as many different countries. The only nation with two drivers in the top ten, interestingly, is Sweden - with Philip Forsman ninth on the grid for Racing Experience, one second slower than Felix. Ten nations are represented within the top 11.

Qualifying 2, which sets up the grid for the second race of the weekend on Sunday, will take place tomorrow morning at 09.05 local time. The first race will then start at 14.25.
