FORMULA 3 EURO SERIES
Date: May 13th, 2011
Venue: Zandvoort (the Netherlands)
Felix proved that he had no problems adapting to the challenges of the Zandvoort circuit, as he went second-fastest in Formula 3 Euro Series free practice on his very first acquaintance with the Dutch rollercoaster venue this morning. Felix had topped the first part of the two-hour session, and eventually ended up 0.225s behind Marco Wittmann (Signature) as a range of new-tyre stints just before the end of running produced some of the fastest Formula 3 lap times ever recorded at Zandvoort.
The pace in practice was truly blistering, with Wittmann's 1m30.190s best being more than a full second quicker than Edoardo Mortara's Pole Position time of last year. Felix, meanwhile, posted a 1m30.415s to out-pace Laurens Vanthoor by just 0.002s as he continued to find his feet in rapid fashion - completing a trouble-free programme for his Mücke Motorsport team on what he labelled "a very physical circuit". Team-mate and local hero Nigel Melker shadowed Felix closely, ending the session less than a tenth behind in fourth place. Earlier in the morning, Melker had gone second-fastest to Felix to pave the way for a Mücke Motorsport 1-2 after the first hour of running.
Qualifying will take place at 14.25 CET this afternoon, and with the pace already at an all-time high at Zandvoort, the fight for Pole Position looks set to be even more intense than usual. Join us for LIVE commentary of the session here at www.felixracing.se, with coverage kicking off at 14.15 CET.
