Felix takes second place in first Brands Hatch outing

FORMULA 3 EURO SERIES / FIA EUROPEAN FORMULA 3 CHAMPIONSHIP
Venue:
Brands Hatch (Great Britain) | Date: May 18th, 2012 | Weather: Cloudy

Felix opened the Formula 3 Euro Series and FIA European F3 Championship weekend at Brands Hatch by going second fastest in free practice on Friday morning, as he completed his first-ever outing at the British roller-coaster circuit.

Felix - who is sporting a new, temporarily unpainted crash helmet this weekend after his old one failed to pass post-race scrutineering at Pau a week ago - ended the session 0.146s  behind pace-setter Daniel Juncadella to head the list over the drivers who, unlike the Spaniard, had never visited Brands Hatch before. Felix, in turn, was one tenth ahead of third-placed Carlos Sainz Jr. and a further tenth in front of Raffaele Marciello, as nine cars were covered by less than half a second around the shortest lap on the calendar.

Felix's Mücke Motorsport team-mate, Pascal Wehrlein, was tenth.

As expected, the length and intense layout of the circuit meant that traffic was a frequent issue throughout practice, with the ability to find clear air and free laps likely to be one of the main keys for this afternoon's qualifying session. Qualifying begins at 16.45 local time.

QUOTE | FELIX
"A good start to the weekend, and I have to say that Brands Hatch is a genuinely fun circuit to drive! I only really got one free, quick lap in, but at least it was enough to give us a hint of where we are. Lap times, as we expected, are close - but I still actually think it's quite possible to find huge chunks of time in more or less every corner if you get it together perfectly. I'm really looking forward to qualifying, which will be intense around here!"
