Felix ends up third in Nürburgring practice - 0.060s shy of P1

Date: August 5th, 2011
Venue: Nürburgring (Germany)
Weather: Sunny

Felix sent a message of intent to his competitors in Formula 3 Euro Series practice at the Nürburgring this morning, as the Mücke Motorsport driver topped the first part of the session and went on to post the third-fastest time overall.

Championship leader Roberto Merhi was the first of the front-runners to set a representative lap time, the Spaniard steadily  working his way down to a 1m23.487s effort at the end of the first hour. Mücke Motorsport would not wait long to fire a warning shot to their rivals, however, with both Felix and team-mate Nigel Melker bettering Merhi's early benchmark and posting several purple sector and full lap times in a row. As the chequered flag fell to signal the start of the customary five-minute break between sessions, Felix found himself on top of the timesheets with 1m23.288s - 0.167s faster than Melker.

As practice resumed, though, Prema Powerteam replied to the Mücke Motorsport challenge through a succession of quick laps from Merhi and Daniel Juncadella - with the duo improving their times from the previous session by a couple on tenths to haul themselves ahead of Felix's benchmark by the tiniest of margins. Juncadella eventually ended up fastest overall, 0.029s ahead of Merhi while Felix's morning time remained good enough for third - a mere three hundredths behind Merhi. Melker wound up fourth on the combined times list.

The next session of the weekend is qualifying, which will be described LIVE here at www.felixracing.se at 16.15 CET this afternoon.
