Formula Renault NEZ, Estonia: Felix follows Roos home in Race 1

2009-06-27
FORMULA RENAULT 2.0 NEZ
ROUND 3-4: PÄRNU, ESTONIA (2,174 km)
REPORT RACE 1

Qualifying at Pärnu was run in the wet

Felix concentrates ahead of Race 1

After a period of serenity for the Formula Renault NEZ fraternity, this weekend marks the running of rounds 3-4 as the championship reaches Pärnu, Estonia. As usual, Felix Rosenqvist is on-site together with Team BS Motorsport, who once again have claimed a one-two victory with Race 1 glory going to Daniel Roos who finished just ahead of Felix in the Saturday evening showdown. The Pärnu circuit is rather old and lacks some of the modern facilities of contemporary Europe, but still offers a good challenge with fast corners which - according to Felix himself - demand a certain amount of courage. Despite the lovely visit of summer in the majority of Europe, Estonia qualifying earlier today was run in the wet. The two Swedish drivers, however, have been in the region of one and a half second per lap faster than their competitors this weekend, and the fight for grid positions soon turned into a battle between Felix and his team-mate. Roos eventually emerged on top by 2/100 of a second, lending further weight to the season-long fact that both Team BS Motorsport drivers are very equally matched. The track dried completely ahead of the Race 1 start; Roos took the early lead and led Felix, who wasn't entirely pleased with what he labeled a "conservative" drive, to the chequered flag. Third-placed Miika Honkanen came home some 20 seconds adrift.

Results, Race 1

1: Daniel Roos
2: Felix Rosenqvist
3: Miika Honkanen

Pole Position: Daniel Roos
Fastest Lap: Daniel Roos

Tomorrow (Sunday), the final race of the weekend will take place with Felix again on the front row of the grid in second place behind team mate Roos. The Formula Renault NEZ qualifying system means that beside the outright fastest lap - which of course determines the starting order for Race 1 - it's important to be consistently quick as the second-fastest lap shapes the Race 2 grid. For information and comments on tomorrow's results, please await the Felix Racing press release.
