Formula Renault Sweden: Race 1, Karlskoga

Driving in the wet in Karlskoga - here during qualifying on Friday afternoon

Double success for Team BS Motorsport in Karlskoga

After a winter of intense speculation about the new-for-2009 Swedish Formula Renault championship, the racing itself finally began in earnest today in Karlskoga. Motivated by his Formula Renault NEZ victory in Finland last weekend, Felix Rosenqvist kept his cool during a difficult qualifying session in rainy conditions to start from third on the grid. Yellow flags, crashes and spins dominated the session, which was deemed "a lottery" by several drivers afterwards. Pole Position went to Finland's Jukka Honkavuori, but Felix and his Team BS Motorsport team mate Daniel Roos got off to a better start to lead 1-2 into the first corner. Felix, however, got overtaken by Formula 2 driver Henri Karjalainen in a first-lap manouvre from the Finn, and despite being clearly faster, he couldn't get past until the final lap when Karjalainen made a mistake and had to give up his position. By that time, Roos had already opened up a significant gap, but Felix ended the race by claiming fastest lap - and thereby Pole Position in tomorrow's final race of the weekend. The race was run in heavy rain.
