Felix acclimatises to Spa with fifth in opening practice

 Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) | Date: July 26th, 2012 | Weather: Sunny

By Mattias Persson

Felix wasted little time acclimatising to the challenges of Spa-Francorchamps as he took to the legendary track for the first time in an F3 car on Thursday morning, posting the fifth fastest time as the 29-car field ventured out for the opening free practice session of the weekend.

Felix initially sat in second on the timesheets, but was demoted to his eventual fifth place when a number of drivers - including pacesetter Jazeman Jaafar (2m16.017s) - went out on new tyres towards the end of the session. Felix's best effort was just over half a second slower than Jaafar's around the 7 km lap, marking a strong start to the combined FIA European Formula 3 Championship and British F3 Series weekend in Belgium.

Thursday's second free practice session will take place at 14.45 local time.

"A good session for us. I got into the rhythm very quickly, and it felt like if I'd done hundreds of laps around here before. I had some even faster sector times on other laps than my quickest one, and the car felt good. I'm looking forward to learning more about the track in the second session later on today."
