Red-flag stoppage in Free Practice - Felix misses window to improve

OSCHERSLEBEN
FREE PRACTICE
2010-10-01

Felix ended up in eighth place as Free Practice got the final ATS Formula 3 Cup weekend of the year underway at Oschersleben today. The session was slightly shortened due to a red-flag stoppage when Daniel Abt blew his Volkswagen engine in spectacular fashion a few minutes from the end, meaning that Felix had to abandon a lap which would have seen him climb up the order in the dying moments of running. Seconds before his engine blow-up, Abt had set a time good enough to go quickest ahead of Van Amersfoort Racing team-mate Stef Dusseldorp, with GP3 regular Nigel Melker posting the third-fastest time. Alon Day in the second Performance Racing car finished in 12th position on the timesheets, 0.4 seconds adrift of Felix. Van Amersfoort Racing are currently working on replacing Abt's engine, and it remains to be seen just how seriously the German's title ambitions will have been hit by the problem.

Next up this weekend is Qualifying 1, which is set to commence at 17.30 local time (GMT+02:00) this afternoon. Felix Racing's live commentary service will once again take you through the remaining sessions of the event, with coverage of Qualifying 1 set to begin at 17.15.
