Hankook Tire has taken over from Kumho as the sole Formula 3 Euro Series tyre supplier from the start of the 2012 season, with the South Korean company trying out its products for the first time at the Valencia test this weekend.
Hankook has provided German touring car championship the DTM - which races on the same weekends as Formula 3 Euro Series - with tyres since the beginning of last year.
Hankook has gained previous Formula 3 experience through its presence in the Japanese series, and the new deal sees teams and drivers face yet another technical unknown ahead of the up-coming campaign, in which the brand new Dallara F312 chassis will also be introduced to the category.
"I'm glad that the championship organisers have reached this agreement with Hankook for 2012 and onwards," Felix says. "I followed the work they undertook in the DTM last year and have huge confidence in their know-how. My team (Mücke Motorsport) runs two cars in the DTM, and hopefully their experience of Hankook's products can be of some use to us this season.
"Tyres are one of the most important factors for performance in this sport, and the first signs have been very positive here in Valencia. The tyres seem to last for a long time and are not prone to massive degradation, and we'll be working flat out to extend our understanding throughout the rest of winter testing."
