Felix takes Hockenheim Race 3 win!

FIA Formula 3 European Championship | Round 3
Venue:
Hockenheim (Germany) | Date: 5 May 2013 | Weather: Cloudy

By Mattias Persson

Felix bounced back from a challenging Saturday to claim his second victory of the year in emphatic fashion in the final FIA Formula 3 European Championship race of the weekend at Hockenheim.

A sensational start from fourth on the grid catapulted Felix into an early lead, which he then set about defending from Jordan King (Carlin) and Felix Serralles (Fortec) who could use a straightline speed advantage to eat into the cushion Felix managed to build in the technical sector three on each of the opening laps.

A safety car period then eroded Felix's lead completely - and once the racing got back underway, he immediately came under fire. A strong restart, however, just gave him the gap he needed to remain in front of his rivals, although King nipped past momentarily before Felix fought back just a corner later.

From there, he was never challenged, and eventually crossed the line 4.8 seconds ahead of Serralles to cement his second place in the overall standings.

COMMENT | FELIX
"A really great way to end the weekend! I got a fantastic start and managed to grab the lead into Turn 1, but I knew we were lacking a bit of top speed and that I needed to build a gap in the first few corners in order to defend my lead on the back straight. It just worked out on the opening lap, and then I started to open up a slight, slight gap just before the safety car came out - and that was the next challenge I had to overcome.

"Again, I had to make sure no one got into my slipstream after the restart, and that worked out well. I managed to fight back ahead of King after he passed me briefly into the Mercedes Arena, and then our car really came good and I managed to pull away. The balance of the car felt good, but we haven't had the very outright pace this weekend - at least not until now - and this was a race in which I had to make absolutely no mistakes. It feels great to have won for the second time this year!"
