Felix takes third win of 2012 in emphatic Hockenheim showing

FORMULA 3 EURO SERIES / FIA EUROPEAN FORMULA 3 CHAMPIONSHIP
Venue:
Hockenheim (Germany) | Date: October 20th, 2012 | Weather: Sunny

By Mattias Persson

Felix claimed his third win of the year as he made maximum use of pole position to put on a commanding lights-to-flag performance in the opening race of the weekend at the 2012 Formula 3 Euro Series and FIA European F3 Championship finale at Hockenheim.

Felix got away superbly off the line, and defended his lead from an opening-lap attack by fellow front-row starter Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam) before gradually extending his advantage in the middle parts of the race.

Juncadella looked set for second until four laps from the end, when his engine started to sound unhealthy and eventually developed problems big enough to force the Spaniard into retirement. As a result, Mücke Motorsport could celebrate their first one-two of the year, as Pascal Wehrlein followed Felix home 5.6 seconds in arrears.

To underline what can only be described as superiority on a weekend that has so far seen him top every single session, Felix also posted the fastest lap of the race on the very final tour.

The result sees Felix leap into third place overall in the FIA European F3 Championship points' table, and into fourth in Formula 3 Euro Series. Due to the reversed-grid regulations in use, Felix will start this afternoon's Race 2 - which only counts towards the Formula 3 Euro Series standings - from eighth place.

Race 2 is set to start at 15.25 local time.

COMMENT | FELIX
"Another very good race for us! I had a few issues getting the tyres up to temperature on the first few laps, which enabled Daniel (Juncadella) to challenge me on lap one, but once everything was up to speed, I managed to pull away. It's great for the team to get a 1-2 finish at the final round of the regular 2012 campaign, and we will go flat-out for even more in the remaining two races."
