Felix takes Macau Grand Prix podium with second place

Felix became the first Swede since Björn Wirdheim in 2001 to take to the podium in the end-of-year Formula 3 world finale at Macau, as he challenged António Félix da Costa for the win to eventually finish one and a half second behind the Red Bull-backed Portuguese.

Felix made another trademark getaway from second on the grid, taking over the lead ahead of Félix da Costa on the run down to Lisboa. Much like in yesterday's Qualification Race, however, the Carlin man used a tow to charge ahead again.

At Lisboa, Felix also lost second to Britain's Alex Lynn for a short moment, although he wasted no time in fighting back and reclaimed the position into San Francisco Bend. Felix then put the leader under intense pressure for the next three laps - almost edging alongside on a number of occasions - but the Carlin car proved too quick on the straight for Felix to quite get the upper hand.

A crash involving Lucas Wolf then brought out the safety car, and once the racing resumed, Felix continued to look comfortable behind Félix da Costa. At the line, just 1.559s separated the duo, with Lynn coming home in third ahead of Felix's Mücke Motorsport team-mate Pascal Wehrlein.

The result sees Felix leave Macau as the highest-placed driver running an engine from Mercedes, and completes an emphatic conclusion to the year following Formula 3 Euro Series wins at Zandvoort, Valencia and Hockenheim.

COMMENT | FELIX
"Second place at Macau is obviously a very strong result, but right now I can't help but being slightly disappointed. I really think I could have won this race, but António was very fast and I couldn't quite get a run on him even in the slipstream. I felt that I was particularly fast at the beginning of the race - before the safety car came out - but the tyres take a lot of damage from following someone too closely in the mountain section and I think they overheated towards the end.

"I have to thank everyone at Mücke Motorsport and Mercedes for giving me a very competitive car this weekend, and I also want to forward my appreciation to all my fans and followers. The support I get is unbelievable, and it really makes me want to do even better in the future. Now, I think it's time to throw a party!"
