Felix takes Nürburgring Race 1 podium

Felix took to the podium in the opening race of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship weekend at the Nürburgring, finishing third after a solid drive in the Eifel Mountains.

The race settled in almost immediately after the start, with the top three on the grid keeping their positions around the first corner and Felix slotting in behind front-row men Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam) and Alexander Sims (ThreeBond with T-Sport).

From there, the order remained unchanged throughout, with Felix scoring his 12th podium of the season. Marciello's victory, however, saw the Italian extend his advantage over Felix in the title race by ten points.

Race 2 is set to take place at 18.20 local time this evening, with Felix starting alongside Marciello on the front row in a head-to-head duel between the main championship contenders.

"Third was the best we could get in this race - both Raffaele and Alexander were too fast. I very, very nearly made a really good start which I believe would have enabled me to challenge for the lead, but just dropped the clutch a millisecond too early and got an average getaway.

"The race itself then settled in early, and was quite straightforward for me. It was mostly about not making any mistakes, and I think I got the maximum out of what we had today. We certainly have some work to do before the second race this evening, but - from second on the grid - everything is possible; particularly if I can get a good start."
