No Spanish sun as rain hits Valencia practice

FORMULA 3 EURO SERIES / FIA EUROPEAN FORMULA 3 CHAMPIONSHIP

The Formula 3 Euro Series and FIA European F3 Championship campaign burst back into action with a rain-hit free practice session at Valencia on Friday.

The session, which consisted of two separate 50-minute outings punctuated by a five-minute break, remained wet throughout its duration. Felix never managed to bang in a representative lap when conditions were at their best, but did post a number of competitive sector times and was on his way to a potentially chart-topping effort when he encountered traffic in the final corner as the track began to dry. Felix eventually wound up ninth overall, 1.299 seconds behind Mücke Motorsport team-mate Pascal Wehrlein who went fastest of all.

The likelihood of qualifying taking place in similar conditions this afternoon remains high, with the grid-deciding session set to begin at 15.45 local time.

COMMENT | FELIX
"It's good to be back behind the wheel after the long break we've had since the last race at Zandvoort. I had a much better feeling in the car than the final results seem to suggest, but I simply couldn't get a representative lap together when the track was at its driest. My theoretical best would have placed me right at the top, however, and I think we are well-prepared for qualifying this afternoon."
