Pre-season testing - Valencia - Day 2

FORMULA 3 EURO SERIES
Venue: Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia (Spain)
Date: March 18th, 2012
Weather: Dry/sunny
Duration of test: 2 days (final day)

Felix concluded the first weekend of Formula 3 Euro Series pre-season testing in the best possible way by topping both of Sunday's two sessions and posting the fastest time overall over the two days of running at Circuit Ricardo Tormo.

Much like yesterday, Sunday was mainly about unlocking the secrets of the new Dallara F312 chassis. Mücke Motorsport enjoyed a productive day in the Spanish sun, with Felix completing a full 100 laps (400,5 km) over the two sessions - the majority of them while posting very consistent times on old tyres.

Even though the pure performance-related items on the work list were not being given much attention at Valencia, Felix still managed to haul himself to the top of the timesheets in both of today's sessions, with team-mate Pascal Wehrlein ending up second-fastest overall. The best times were all set in the course of a few hectic minutes at the end of the afternoon, when most drivers opted for a run on new tyres. Felix's benchmark of 1m27.118s, for reference, was 0.742s faster than the Pole Position effort at the Spanish round of the championship last year, and better than any official lap time ever achieved in an F3 car at Valencia.

The closest challenger to the Mücke Motorsport drivers was Italy's Raffaele Marciello, who once again spearheaded the quartet of cars from reigning champions Prema Powerteam - all within one second adrift of Felix.

Formula 3 Euro Series now travels north to Barcelona for the final two days of pre-season testing, set to take place at Grand Prix venue Circuit de Catalunya on Wednesday and Thursday next week.

COMMENT | FELIX
"We have achieved a lot over these two days of testing. Today saw us continue along the lines we set up yesterday, concentrating on aerodynamic performance and collecting a considerable amount of data. The most positive thing is the fact that I can actually clearly feel the difference between the various set-ups we are trying, which makes things a lot easier when it comes to comparing our back-to-back programmes."

"We still need to learn a lot more about the new tyres - I think everyone is struggling a bit with them at the moment - but we have two more days in Barcelona and will hopefully sort most of it out there. We seem to be OK on pace, but it's always difficult to know until the real racing begins. Everything has gone according to plan and we haven't had any technical issues or incidents whatsoever. It has been a strong start to the year."
