Felix endures challenging Race 1, but secures Race 2 front row slot

Felix endured a challenging opening race of the Formula 3 Euro Series and FIA European F3 Championship weekend at Brands Hatch, taking the chequered flag in seventh position - but securing himself a spot on the front row for this afternoon's Race 2 in the process.

A trademark start saw Felix get away well off the line from sixth place on the grid, but that didn't translate into a gain of positions after the Mücke Motorsport driver got squeezed between team-mate Pascal Wehrlein and Carlos Sainz Jr. on the climb to Paddock Hill Bend.

As the race settled in after the opening flurry of laps, it soon became apparent that the four Prema Powerteam cars were carrying a pace advantage over the rest of the field, with Felix coming under severe pressure from Sven Müller. The German eventually managed to get through after Felix understeered off the line at Paddock Hill Bend, with Prema Powerteam going on to celebrate a complete lock-out of the podium as the Italian outfit's full quartet of cars finished inside the top six.

Felix's seventh place means that he will start the reversed-grid Race 2 from second place on the grid this afternoon.

QUOTE | FELIX
"Unfortunately, I have the same feeling I had following the curtain-raiser at Hockenheim; we are just not quick enough at the moment. I definitely don't want to blame anything or anyone - and it was my own fault that I had to let Müller past on the exit of Paddock Hill Bend - but we all agree within the team that we are lacking performance compared to Prema Powerteam. We do have a few theories as to why that is, but it's obviously a complicated thing and it's not something we can get on top of here this weekend. Now, however, the focus is entirely on trying to get a good result in Race 2."
