Lap one incident sees Felix end up fifth after challenging for Race 2 lead

FORMULA 3 EURO SERIES
Venue:
Brands Hatch (Great Britain) | Date: May 19th, 2012 | Weather: Overcast

By Mattias Persson

Felix came home in fifth place overall and fourth among the Formula 3 Euro Series drivers in the second race of the weekend at Brands Hatch, after having been pushed off the track as he challenged Malaysian Jazeman Jaafar for the lead on the opening lap.

Aided by a better start than fellow front-row man and Pole-sitter Jaafar, Felix instantly attacked the Carlin driver with a bold move around the outside of the 190 km/h Paddock Hill Bend. Carrying the speed with him into the following corner - Druids - Felix remained on the outside of Jaafar only to see his rival firmly close the door and force Felix wide onto the run-off gravel zone.

The incident meant that Sven Müller, Pascal Wehrlein and Michael Lewis all managed to sweep past, with Felix then being stuck behind the latter for the rest of what was a fairly static 20-minute race. Fifth place overall translated into fourth on the points list, however, once Jaafar's status as guest driver had seen the Malaysian discounted from the Formula 3 Euro Series results.

As always, Race 2 of each meeting only counts towards Formula 3 Euro Series and not to the FIA European F3 Championship. The final race of the weekend, though - which takes place tomorrow morning - will be valid for both series.

QUOTE | FELIX
"There isn't a lot to say about the race this afternoon; I made a good start, challenged Jaafar into Turns 1 and 2 and was then forced to run wide onto the gravel. I don't want to apportion any blame for the incident with Jazeman, but it's a shame it happened as it obviously cost me some points. I guess in a way we were lucky that it occurred on a weekend when we haven't got the outright pace anyway, but we are now shifting our attention towards tomorrow when we will try to bring home some further decent points."
