Felix retires from rain-hit Race 3 after colliding with Raffaele Marciello

By Mattias Persson

Felix was forced to retire from the final race of the weekend at a wet Spa-Francorchamps, after clashing with Prema Powerteam's Raffaele Marciello on lap six.

With the Spa circuit soaked in rain ahead of the start of the race, drivers were given an extra formation lap to acquaint themselves with the treacherous conditions. Once the racing got underway slightly behind schedule, Felix moved up to tenth from 13th on the grid, only to be forced into retirement after just six laps as he ran into Marciello under braking for the Bus Stop chicane amid the limited visibility.

The race was won by Carlos Sainz Jr. (Carlin) ahead of Tom Blomqvist (ma-con Motorsport), while fellow FIA European F3 Championship rivals Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam) and Marciello endured a challenging race that featured several spins and incidents.

The next event on the calendar takes place just across the Belgian/German border, as the Formula 3 Euro Series and FIA European F3 Championship heads to the Nürburgring next month.

QUOTE | FELIX
“That wasn’t a very long race for me, and I have to take responsibility for the clash with Raffaele. I couldn’t see anything in the spray as we went around Blanchimont and into Bus Stop, and all of a sudden I hit Raffaele’s car. I have apologised to him and am sorry for what happened. Up until then, we had been running relatively strongly, but the car didn’t feel very good and acted strangely at the rear. We didn't have time to change the set-up into one suited for the rain ahead of the race, and the car was very difficult to drive because of that. Let's hope for a better few races as we go into the rest of the season.”
