Rain hits opening Masters practice

Date: August 13th, 2011
Venue: Zandvoort (the Netherlands)
Weather: Light rain

Opening practice for this weekend's RTL GP Masters of Formula 3 was hit by rain just minutes before the session began at Zandvoort this morning.

Most drivers headed out for an early installation lap to get a feel for the slippery conditions, with some of them - most notably the Carlin runners, the British team topping the session with Rupert Svendsen-Cook (1m46.074s) - returning to the pits to fit a set of rain tyres just moments later.

With rainfall relatively light, however, Felix remained on slicks throughout the 20-minute session to end up 10th overall with a 1m49.390s effort.

Lap times tumbled quickly in the Dutch sand dunes, as conditions shifted basically from one lap to the next. The best times were all set in the very final minute of the session, when Felix did not commit to a flying lap.

The second and final practice session ahead of qualifying this afternoon takes place at 10.05 CET.
