Throughout the autumn, www.felixracing.se will be running a series of articles where we look back at some of Felix's previous rivals - and chart where their careers have taken them by 2012. A new profile will be introduced every seven days. This week: Jean-Éric Vergne.
Raced against Felix: 2010 (Macau Grand Prix)
Today: Formula 1 debut campaign with Scuderia Toro Rosso
A long-time Red Bull protégé, Jean-Éric Vergne was given the opportunity to join the Austrian energy drinks giant's junior squad - Scuderia Toro Rosso - in Formula 1 ahead of this season. The Frenchman first rose to general awareness thanks to a dominant campaign in the British Formula 3 championship in 2010, and at the end of the year, he duly joined the rest of the international F3 elite for the prestigious Macau Grand Prix world finale.
Meanwhile, Felix had just finished a promising first season of Formula 3 in the German series, and was accordingly invited to participate in the Asian classic on the streets of the former Portuguese colony. Felix qualified three places ahead of Vergne (2m12.664s vs. 2m13.042s), but contact with the wall in the main race eventually meant that he took the chequered flag right behind the Frenchman, who currently strives to establish himself firmly on the F1 grid.
