Felix does it again; from 27th to ninth i Vallelunga Race 2

FIA Formula 3 European Championship | Round 9
Venue:
Vallelunga (Italy) | Date: 13 October 2013 | Weather: Sunny

By Mattias Persson

Felix repeated his yesterday drive through the field - and did so to even greater effect - as he leapt from 27th and last to a points-paying ninth place finish in Sunday's Race 2 at Vallelunga; while title rival Raffaele Marciello was forced into an early retirement.

The race came to a dramatic commencement, as Marciello's Prema Powerteam Dallara was covered in a cloud of smoke as the start procedure went underway. Once the lights went out, Marciello remained stood on the grid, retiring on the spot. Prema Powerteam are yet to announce the nature of Marciello's problem.

The Italian's retirement handed Felix a small shot at making possible inroads into Marciello's overall lead - but from 27th on the grid, it was always going to be everything but easy.

After yet another committed drive, however - and after overcoming two safety car periods - Felix eventually came home ninth, even improving on his Race 1 result of tenth to score another four very valuable points towards his championship cause.

Marciello now leads the title fight by 28.5 points.

Felix will start this afternoon's Race 3 from 13th on the grid (another result of his qualifying adversity), with Marciello on pole.

QUOTE | FELIX

"Yet another very entertaining race to drive! After our P10 finish yesterday, I knew that it would be tough to repeat that, so to come home ninth today is great. I was on four old tyres in this race, which didn't make things easier and obviously hurt us a bit towards the end, but it turned out pretty well and sets us up better for Race 3 this afternoon. If I can make up a similar amount of places by then, things are looking pretty good! Joking aside, our target for the final race will have to be to continue to maximise the situation, and to score as many points as we possibly can."
