The FIA Formula 3 European Championship has scrapped plans to stage its 2013 finale at Paul Ricard, replacing the French round of the campaign with a maiden visit to the Italian venue of Vallelunga.
The decision was announced on Friday afternoon, after motorsport governing body the FIA - which promotes the European Championship - failed to come to terms with the French authorities regarding the provisions for the finale.
There had also been concerns among teams that the original date slot for the Paul Ricard event - October 25-27 - could lead to significant logistical challenges in the transportation of F3 cars to the end-of-season Macau Grand Prix in China in mid-November.
The replacement round at Vallelunga will take place on October 12-13, one week ahead of the October 18-20 event at Hockenheim - which will now effectively become the new finale.
Vallelunga is the home circuit of reigning F3 champions Prema Powerteam. Felix, by contrast, has never previously driven at the Rome venue.
